OF COURSE! / INDEED!

ཡིན་ / ཡོད་ / འདུག་ or Verb + དང་ + same word
Examples : ཡིན་དང་ཡིན། , ཡོད་དང་ཡོད། , འགྲོ་དང་འགྲོ
  • A reply that means “of course” or “indeed” : the auxiliary or verb of the question is said twice with དང་ between, literally “yes and yes”. It is the speaker's own view, so it uses the བདག words ཡིན་ and ཡོད་, never མེད་དང་མེད་ and never རེད་དང་རེད་ ; འདུག་དང་འདུག happens only when you have just discovered what you are saying.
  • After a verb, repeat the verb (འགྲོ་དང་འགྲོ། ཉོས་དང་ཉོས། in the past), or simply answer ཡིན་དང་ཡིན། ; after a noun plus a verbalizer, repeat only the verbalizer ; after a modal, repeat the auxiliary (ཡོད་དང་ཡོད།). A negative question gets the same answer, as in English.
  • The same mould also sits inside a statement to stress it (ཡོད་དང་ཡོད། “he truly has”). Other ways to say it : ཡིན་དགོས་བྱུང་། / ཡོད་དགོས་བྱུང་། (the verb stays in the present) and ལོས་ + word (ལོས་ཡོད། ལོས་འགྲོ།).
