PLAN TO / TRY TO

I PLAN TO…
Verb + རྩིས་ + ཡོད། / ཡོད་རེད།
Not : Verb + རྩིས་ + མེད། / ཡོད་མ་རེད། · Past : Verb + རྩིས་ + བྱས་པ་ཡིན།
  • རྩིས་ after a plain verb says that someone plans or is considering doing something. It is mostly used for real plans and projects, not for small whims such as eating an apple (use འདོད་ for that).
  • It takes the present perfect : ཡོད། / མེད། for yourself, ཡོད་རེད། / ཡོད་མ་རེད། for others, and ཡོད་པས། / ཡོད་རེད་པས། in questions. There is no future, since a plan already points to the future, and no འདུག, since you cannot see someone else's plan.
  • The simple past is the exception : the verbaliser is added, Verb + རྩིས་བྱས་པ་ཡིན། (honorific རྩིས་གནང་བ་རེད།). A variant spelling is རྩིསམ་ཡོད།.
